No PVC, no church, Catholic priest bars congregants from worship over PVC

A Catholic priest in Cross River State on Sunday prevented worshippers without permanent voter card (PVC) or evidence of registration for it from going into the church for worship.

The incident, a Facebook user Erunke Kenny-g said, happened at St Matthew Catholic Church, Utugwang, Obudu LGA of Cross River State.

The video has since been shared multiple times on social media.

“Coming for mass, carry your PVC, if you don’t have your PVC, don’t bother coming,” the priest said.

“Because there is no point in having Christians fill the church, but during the election, we have only a handful of them go out to vote.

“So, it means our number, our population means nothing. We want Christians to take their responsibility and their role seriously.”

The priest also threatened that he will not give the Holy Communion nor visit worshippers without PVC.
