Nollywood Veteran Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’ to Be Buried in Ilaro Monday

Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, will be laid to rest in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 24, 2026.

Hassan died at about 3 p.m. on Sunday at the age of 66, according to a burial announcement made by fellow veteran actor Jide Kosoko on Instagram.

Following his death, the actor’s remains were transported to Ilaro, where a lying-in-state ceremony is scheduled to hold on Monday.

The ceremony will take place at the Pavillon in Ilaro from 11 a.m., according to the burial announcement.

Kosoko expressed condolences to Hassan’s family, friends, colleagues and other loved ones, while praying for the deceased to be granted eternal rest.

The burial was also confirmed by the founder of Best of Nollywood, Seun Oloketuyi, who shared a statement from the Ilaro Muslim Community announcing plans for the actor’s funeral prayers.

According to the community, the burial prayer will be held at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground at 10 a.m., with the Chief Imam of Ilaro expected to lead the proceedings.

Hassan’s death came just days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, appealed publicly for medical assistance for their father, who had been battling stage-four cancer.

On August 17, the sisters sought medical advice and support through social media as the actor’s condition deteriorated.

Kaira had disclosed that doctors treating her father had informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of his condition.

Hassan was a highly regarded figure in the Nigerian film industry, particularly in Yoruba-language cinema, where he built a successful career spanning several decades.

His death has sparked an outpouring of condolences from colleagues, fans and other members of the Nigerian entertainment industry.
