Lizzy Jay alerts fans to WhatsApp scam using her identity

Nollywood actress and skit maker Lizzy Jay has alerted her fans to a WhatsApp scam involving someone using her name and picture to solicit money from people.

The actress raised the alarm on Instagram on Friday, after discovering that an individual had created a WhatsApp account using her identity.

Sharing a screenshot of the chat, Lizzy Jay wrote: “SCAM ALERT! PLEASE READ AND SHARE! 🚨

“It has come to my notice that one goat is currently using my picture and name on WhatsApp to scam people. 😭

“Please, DO NOT FALL FOR IT! I will never randomly message you to beg for an urgent ₦50,000 or ask you to send money because of an emergency.

“If you receive any message like that from a number claiming to be me, please do not send any money. It is NOT me.

“And abeg, I need you people to help me call this number to glory, frustrate him with calls 😭. Please let’s report this number on WhatsApp and block the account so this person doesn’t use the same trick to scam someone else.

“Because right now, the person has already changed the display picture and name, and I’m sure they may have started messaging other people with that account.

“Please share this everywhere. Let nobody use my face to collect your money! 😭😂 “

The actress urged her followers to report and block the account to prevent the impersonator from contacting more people.

Lizzy Jay has previously spoken publicly about online abuse and privacy concerns. In 2023, she revealed that a person who allegedly gained access to one of her email accounts also accessed her Snapchat account and threatened to release a private video.

Celebrity impersonation scams have also affected other Nigerian entertainers.

In April 2026, actor Adeniyi Johnson warned the public about an individual in the United Kingdom who was allegedly posing as him online and contacting people with fake business proposals.

In July 2026, actor Frederick Leonard warned aspiring actors about people using his name to collect money for fake auditions. He said his production company had not scheduled auditions and urged the public to rely on his verified social media accounts for announcements.

Actress Bukky Wright also raised an alarm in October 2025 over fake social media accounts using her name and image in connection with a fraudulent UK job offer.

Actor Bolanle Ninalowo also spoke out in 2025 after a fraudster allegedly used his identity on TikTok to defraud a woman of N33 million. The matter was reported to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for investigation.
