Abia Governor Steps In to Pay Actress Ngozi Nwosu’s Medical Bills

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved the release of the first tranche of funds to cover the medical expenses of veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu, following her public appeal for financial assistance to undergo three life-saving surgeries.

The intervention was announced on Tuesday by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Martins Justice, in a post shared on X.

According to him, Governor Otti approved the initial payment towards the actress’s treatment after learning of her health challenges.

“His Excellency, @alexottiofr, has stepped in to support the health needs of our Nollywood legend, Mrs. Ngozi Nwosu, by approving the first part of her medical bills,” Justice wrote.

He explained, however, that the governor’s support covers only part of the required medical expenses and appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to continue contributing towards the actress’s treatment.

“While we sincerely appreciate His Excellency’s generous intervention, we still appeal to kind-hearted Nigerians to support her in any way they can,” he added.

Justice also expressed gratitude to the governor on behalf of the Nigerian creative industry for the timely assistance.

“On behalf of the creative industry, we sincerely thank you, my leader. Ndewo sir,” he wrote.

The intervention comes days after the 62-year-old actress made an emotional appeal for public support, revealing that she needed ₦30 million to undergo three urgent surgeries.

In a video shared on her Instagram page, Nwosu disclosed that she had been hospitalised for three weeks and could no longer bear the financial burden of her treatment.

Addressing her fans, family and colleagues, the actress pleaded for assistance, saying, “My people, my fans and my family, I know you haven’t seen me around for some time. I’ve been in the hospital for three weeks, and this situation has gone beyond what I can handle.

“I need your help. Please don’t let me die. I know you have always stood by me. I’m begging my fans and family not to abandon me because I am going through so much pain.”

Nwosu said she requires three surgeries and urged anyone willing to support her recovery to reach out to her management team for details on how to contribute.
