LAUTECH students drag Makinde to court for relocating agric faculty

Some students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State have filed a suit at the State High Court against Governor Seyi Makinde and three others for relocating the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences to the Iseyin campus.

The faculty was moved to the reformed Faculty of Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resources in Iseyin Local Government Area.

This comes after second-year students were directed to move to Iseyin for the second semester of the ongoing academic session.

The plaintiffs in the suit filed on October 30 and marked HOG/34/2023 are Akintayo Ajibola, Onwi Edet, Ezekiel Ogunmola and Aderemi Olude.

The defendants are the commissioner for education, acting vice-chancellor of LAUTECH, and the provost of Iseyin campus.

The students filed the suit for themselves, and on behalf of other students and parents of the second-year students of the faculty.

The claimants are seeking an order from the court to restrain the governor and his agents from going ahead with the planned relocation.

No date has been fixed for the hearing of the suit.
