Ex-finance minister Onaolapo Soleye buried

The remains of the former minister of finance Onaolapo Soleye have been buried.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun; former governors of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun; and minister of finance and coordinating minister for the economy, Wale Edun, among others were present at the funeral service on Friday.

Abiodun, in an Instagram post, said Soleye as finance minister played a crucial role in shaping the country’s economic policies, implementing important reforms, and driving sustainable growth.

“Dr. Soneye’s passing has left a void that will be hard to fill. His legacy as a statesman, mentor, and role model will be cherished by future generations. His wisdom, integrity, and commitment to public service will serve as a source of inspiration for us all,” he added.

Soleye died in the early hours of November 15, 2023, at the age of 90.

He was finance minister during the military regime of General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) He died just four days after celebrating his 90th birthday on Saturday, November 11, 2023.
