Genevieve Nnaji makes first public appearance in Nigeria after mental health scare

Actress Genevieve Nnaji has attended the screening of her latest film I Do Not Come To You By Chance at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), making it her first public appearance in Nigeria after a mental health scare.

The movie star stormed the event in Lagos, with the movie director and othes on Thursday.

Photos and videos of the actress posing with her colleagues and many of her fans have been circulating the internet since Thursday night.

The 44-year-old also posted a picture of herself at the event on her Instagram story.

The film is an adaptation of Adaobi Nwaubani‘s award-winning 2009 novel with the same title.

The movie was directed by Ishaya Bako, the director of The Royal Hibiscus Hotel and Road To Yesterday.

Genevieve’s latest project first premiered in September at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Her hitherto low profile on social media had got fans worried about her state of mind.

The filmmaker, however, returned to social media in September after a long break to promote her new executive-produced movie, making it her first public appearance this year.

The new movie is co-produced by Chinny Carter and Chioma Onyenwe, while scripting was done by Chika Anadu and Bako.

It stars Paul Nnadiekwe, who makes his debut appearance on the big screen, alongside Blossom Chukwujekwu.

Joining them are Jennifer Eliogu, Sambasa Nberibe, and Beverly Osu. It follows a struggling Nigerian graduate whose seemingly sole option involves assisting his dubious uncle’s fraudulent email scam. The film presents its story in both English and Igbo.
