The 26-year-old was on a season long loan at Stamford Bridge last season with Chelsea looking for a means in extending his deal.
But according to Italian news media outlet Tuttosport, Conte has made Kovacic’s return to the Serie a priority.
Maurizio Sarri recently revealed that he wish to make the midfielder remain in the Premier League amid rumours of a £26million option to buy.
However, the former Dinamo Zagreb star may favour a return to the San Siro, where he spent two years before his big-money move to Spain.
The Italian manager won his first trophy when his side defeated Arsenal in the Europa League final by 4-1 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
