Nigerians Demand INEC Chairman’s Sack

The lack-luster organisation that has trailed the 2023 general election is a cause of worry to many Nigerians.

They are therefore calling for the sack of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

From the feedbacks received from observers and analyst, it points to a conclusion that the on-going election may become the worst conducted general election in Nigeria.

Some of the complaints include failure of BVAS, late arrival of election materials, shortages of materials, inexperienced INEC officials and ballot snatching and thuggery.

Mr. Efe Igbinosa, a political tactician asked why the political parties decided to keep mute, even with glowing evidence that the election process was going south.

“It is quite funny that the People’s Democratic Party, PDP is now speaking up, which is very good and I have been saying it since yesterday that their silence will not be in their favour.

“They have just realized, howbeit very late that they have been rigged out, especially the Labour party.

“At least, Labour knew from the beginning and spoke out since yesterday. A party without strategy is a dangerous political party and PDP lacks strategy.”

My Igbinosa added that, “…once INEC failed to transmit results electronically from the polling booth as contained in their electoral guidelines, they opened the floodgate of manipulation and eventual litigation and that was when PDP ought to have submitted their first complaint but for whatever reasons, they did not.

“Perhaps, they thought the votes from the North will favour them.”

In his estimation, the 2023 election, “…is going to stand as one of the worse elections in the checkered history of Nigeria. Mahmood Yakubu has to resign immediately after the final election results have been concluded.”
