Netflix releases trailer for Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre

Netflix has finally released the highly anticipated trailer for filmmaker Kunle Afolayan’s forthcoming series Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre.

Thetrailer was released on Netflix’s official Instagram account on Tuesday in which it was announced that the series will be released on March 1.

“Betrayal, revenge, and the tussle for ultimate power. #Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre, a series by @kunleafo, arrives March 1.” the post read.

The one-minute clip shows a series of events surrounding the lead character Saro and the fate that awaits him after he is presumed dead.

Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre is a sequel to the movie Anikulapo released in 2022.

The series will feature Sola SowobaleKunle RemiBimbo AdemoyeOwobo OgundeGabriel AfolayanLateef AdedimejiEyiyemi AfolayanUzee Usman, Jide Kosoko, Oyinda Sanni and Taiwo Hassan.

The filmmaker in a 2022 interview with the Guardian UK, said Anikulapo series will be bigger than HBO’s Game of Thrones.

He said: “I’ve been working on Aníkúlápó for six years. Originally, I wanted to make a series but I shopped it and kept telling people that this movie would be bigger than Game of Thrones. Eventually, Netflix told me to make a movie first since I believed in the project that much and if it became a success, we’d develop a series.”

The movie got 16 nominations at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). Anikulapo won five awards altogether, including best overall movie.

Distributed by Netflix, Anikulapo has an IMDB rating of 5.5.
