Actress Nancy Isime has reacted to the controversy generated by her nude scene in Shanty Town, a six-part crime thriller released on Netflix on Friday, January 20.
The 31-year-old played the role of Shalewa a prostitute indebted to a notorious kingpin in the story of three Lagos-based hustlers who unite to wage war against the biggest and most ruthless crime ring in the state.
Shanty Town also stars Richard Mofe–Damijo, Ini Edo, Chidi Mokeme, Nse Ikpe–Etim, Shola Sobowale, Shaffy Bello, Ali Nuhu, Uche Jombo. Zubby Michael, Omowunmi Dada, Mercy Eke, Regina Daniels, Judith Audu, Toyin Abraham and Peter Okoye of P-Square.
In one of the scenes, Nancy’s character is made to strip naked leaving her buttocks and breasts on display.
Clips of that scene have been shared by Nigerians across the globe, leading to Nancy becoming the number one trending topic on Twitter.
Nancy’s character was not the only one that took off her clothes in the thriller.
In fact, nudity began trending on the Nigerian Twitter space after Shanty Town was released.
Reacting to the confusion over her role, Nancy said in an Instagram post on Friday that she was not the one whose body was on display in the movie.
According to her, a body double was used for the scene.
Parts of her post read: “Simmer down horny boys and girls. I know those gorgeous body parts excite you but they sadly belong to my beautiful body double.
“Mine aren’t that succulent.
“Enjoy our beautiful masterpiece, get the message from each scene and Focus on the right Focus!
“Thank you so much for all the amazing reviews so far, I’m so glad y’all are watching and Loving Shanty Town.”
She went on to congratulate the entire cast and crew of the production, describing Shanty Town as another win for Nollywood.
