Eleven new private universities have received their operational licenses from NUC

Nigeria Adds 11 New Private Universities — Here’s What You Should Know

Big news for Nigerian students and families — the NUC is rolling out licenses for 11 brand-new private universities today, taking the total number to a record 159 across the country.

The official license ceremony will go down at 3 PM today in Abuja, according to a brief update from the National Universities Commission shared with the media.

This move comes even after the Federal Government earlier paused new private university approvals. The pause didn’t affect those who were already far along in the approval process — and now, some of them have made the cut!

So, who made it in?

Here’s the full list of the newly approved institutions:

  • 📍 New City University – Ayetoro, Ogun

  • 📍 University of Fortune – Igbotako, Ondo

  • 📍 Eranova University – Mabushi, FCT

  • 📍 Minaret University – Ikirun, Osun

  • 📍 Abubakar Toyin University – Kwara

  • 📍 Lens University – Kwara

  • 📍 Southern Atlantic University – Uyo, Akwa Ibom

  • 📍 Monarch University – Ogun

  • 📍 Tonnie Iredia University of Communication – Edo

  • 📍 Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management – Lagos

  • 📍 Kevin Eze University – Enugu

These schools promise to bring new energy, disciplines, and opportunities to Nigeria’s academic landscape.
