Benue Governor Samuel Ortom calls on FG as Benue state faces flood mishap; Nassarawa state panics

Governor of Benue state has called on federal government to assist the state as it faces serious flood mishap. The rain reported began by past 12am and lasted till 5am which left many residents of the state homeless as they were invaded by flood. The affected areas are Zone 4, Wurukum, Gebade, Nyinma, Ghana, Naka Road, Wadatta Gboko Road and Media village in Achusa.

Governor Ortom inspected the afflicted areas and regarded the situation as overwhelming; and went ahead to reach the federal government to intervene into the situation as so many residents are without homes presently.

He further stressed on the aches of having such affliction at the time the state is laded with non-payment of salaries and enjoined residents of flood prone areas to relocate ASAP.

He directed the State Emergency Management Agency to liaise with the National Emergency Management Agency for the purpose of assisting displaced persons.

He also requested the allocation of ecological funds to Benue state so as to avert the repetition of such flood as in 2012.

Meanwhile, Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State began to take preventive measures from such disaster hitting Nassarawa state as he has given a 30-days ultimatum for the demolition of buildings without specification by the state government.

The governor also gave 30 days ultimatum to filling station owners who had been operating illegally in the state to relocate or face the wrath of the state government.
