Ondo Ex-Lawmakers Unite, Endorse Tinubu for Second Term

The Association of Former Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly has thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term, citing his reform agenda and leadership direction.

The endorsement, which cuts across political affiliations, was reached during a meeting held in Akure, the Ondo State capital. In a statement jointly signed by Chairman Olugbenga Araoyinbo, Secretary Olusegun Akiode, and Public Relations Officer Tayo Abidakun, the group said its position was the result of careful reflection, experience, and a forward-looking assessment of Nigeria’s needs.

According to the former lawmakers, the moment called for responsibility and decisive action in the national interest. Drawing from their background in governance, they said they were convinced that supporting Tinubu for another term was the right course.

They noted that the current administration inherited a struggling economy weighed down by subsidy burdens, weak fiscal structures, and systemic inefficiencies, but chose to confront these challenges head-on rather than delay difficult decisions.

The group described the removal of fuel subsidy as a tough but necessary move that previous governments had avoided. They added that the policy had begun to free up resources for critical sectors, improved allocations to states, and encouraged greater fiscal discipline.

They also highlighted ongoing foreign exchange reforms, saying these measures were gradually restoring investor confidence and setting the stage for long-term economic stability.

Beyond economic policies, the former legislators pointed to visible efforts in infrastructure, security, and youth development, noting increased investments in roads, rail systems, energy, and skills acquisition programmes.

They further commended the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for what they described as innovative leadership that has improved immigration services, strengthened internal security coordination, and enhanced overall public service delivery.

The contributions of the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, and the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, were also acknowledged for their roles in advancing key reforms.

While praising the administration’s achievements so far, the group admitted that many reforms are still in progress. They warned that abandoning them midway could reverse gains already made and return the country to instability.

In conclusion, the association urged Nigerians across political and regional divides to support Tinubu’s re-election, stressing that meaningful transformation requires continuity, stability, and sustained leadership.
