Odion Ighalo reacts after Manchester United confirm loan extension

Odion Ighalo is a happy man after seeing his loan at Manchester United extended till January next year which was confirmed on Monday.

The Nigerian wanted to stay put at his boyhood club after he answered critics by scoring four goals in eight appearances since returning to English football last January.

The player took to Instagram to post a picture of himself donning the famous red shirt alongside a simple smiley face emoji to express his joy.

Ighalo’s loan extension was agreed upon following weeks of discussions between United and his parent club, Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Shenhua.

Ighalo’s previous loan deal expired on May 31, though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen to retain the forward until at least the end of the delayed 2019-20 Premier League season, which is due to resume following its coronavirus-enforced shutdown later this month.

He also reposted lots of well-wishing messages via his Instagram story as fans flocked to offer their congratulations.

United currently sit fifth in the Premier League after embarking upon an 11-game unbeaten run prior to football’s shutdown, three points adrift of Chelsea in fourth.
