Interim National Party Chair: Ex-Gombe ADC Gov Candidate Steps Up

A fresh power struggle has erupted within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as Gombe State’s 2023 governorship candidate, Hon. Nafiu Bala, proclaimed himself the Interim National Chairman of the party.

In a fiery press briefing in Abuja, Bala, the current National Deputy Chairman, described the situation as a full-scale hijack of the ADC by “political strangers” acting with the blessings of outgoing party leaders who, he claims, abdicated their constitutional duties.

“We’ve witnessed a calculated betrayal,” Bala said. “Party structures were handed over to people who have no stake or membership in the ADC. This political hooliganism will not stand.”

Bala Moves to Restore Order, Demands INEC’s Swift Response

Bala invoked the party’s constitution to justify his declaration, stating that it empowers him to act in such a leadership vacuum. He appealed to INEC to urgently acknowledge the leadership transition.

“This is not a power grab; it is a constitutional necessity. The ADC must be reclaimed from political mercenaries,” he stressed.

Party Hijack ‘A National Shame’

Describing recent events as a “shameful display of lawlessness,” Bala condemned what he called a “scripted takeover” of ADC’s political machinery. He alleged that the former leadership colluded with powerful outsiders in a scheme to neutralize the will of elected officers.

He warned that unless those responsible reverse course, the matter will be escalated through legal means. “This is a line we cannot allow anyone to cross,” he said, emphasizing his resolve to restore internal democracy and uphold the rule of law within the ADC.
