Wayne Rooney given two-year driving ban

Former England and Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has been banned from driving for two years after pleading guilty to a drink driving charge. The 31-year-old was stopped while driving a woman’s black Volkswagen Beetle in Wilmslow, Cheshire, at 2am on September 1.

The car reportedly belonged to a woman he had met at the Bubble Room bar in Alderley Edge on a night out though he was not reported to have had intimate relationship with her. Rooney was later arrested and bailed and was charged with drink driving. On Monday, September 18, he appeared at the Stockport Magistrates’ Court. Wearing a blue suit and with his hands in his pockets, Rooney walked into the court building accompanied by a small entourage.

He has been married to his high-school sweetheart Coleen since 2008 and they have three children together. Mrs Rooney recently announced she is pregnant with their fourth child.
