Tragedy Strikes Plateau Village Once More; Seven Confirmed Dead

Gunmen invaded a village in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State on Friday night, killing at least seven people and injuring several others.

Eyewitnesses in Jos said the attack occurred in Bong village, Doemak District. The assailants reportedly went from house to house, targeting vulnerable residents, including women, children, and the elderly.

Residents described the attackers as heavily armed and said they struck swiftly, leaving many with little chance to escape. Survivors explained that most of the victims were those who could not flee in time.

A native of the area, Mr. Lawrence Dogari, confirmed the incident and the casualty figure. “So far, I can confirm that more than seven people have been killed, and some residents are still missing,” he said.

The Director of Press and Publicity to the Executive Chairman of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Council, Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, also confirmed the attack but noted that authorities are still working to determine the exact number of fatalities.

According to Sylvanus, the council chairman, Hon. Christopher Audu Manship, condemned the attack on innocent villagers and is collaborating with security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are arrested. He added that the council will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Attempts to reach the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, for comments were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to repeated calls.

The Friday night assault is the latest in a series of deadly attacks on Plateau communities. On Christmas Eve, gunmen also attacked the Bum community in Jos South Local Government Area, killing seven people.
