“Very Soon Nigeria Will Drink Her Crude Oil” – Ezekwesili Urges FG To Diversify Economic Mainstay

Nigeria’s former minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili, has urged the federal government to take  drastic measures towards finding other sources of basic economic boom in the country as crude oil might not longer sustain the country.

Ezekwesili who backed her statement based on the fact that the world is currently shifting towards applying technology in basically every aspect of human existence, says “Nigeria will be forced to drink her crude oil very soon if she does not realize how things are changing every second.

The former minister also said that while other countries have started making plans to cope with these changes, Nigeria seems unbothered.

According to Independent UK, countries such as the UK, Germany, France, Norway, and Netherlands, as well as Asian countries, India and China, have expressed plans to ban petrol and diesel cars from their roads, which poses a risk for the future profitability of Nigeria’s oil.

She said this  while speaking  at the 2017 civil engineering conference organised by the Abuja chapter of the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) on Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017.

“Norway, one of the biggest oil producers has just stashed $1 trillion of her oil money in a sovereign wealth fund,” she said.

“I was in Norway recently, and 10 per cent of vehicles used there run on electric. Nigeria should ask herself these critical questions because very soon, Nigeria will drink her crude oil.”
