Lagos State Kicks Off 2026 BECE Registration for JSS3 Students

The Lagos State Government has formally announced the commencement of the Year 2026 electronic registration and payment process for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for both public and private junior secondary schools across the state.

The exercise, scheduled to run from Monday, January 26 to Friday, March 27, 2026, is being coordinated by the Lagos State Examinations Board. It is designed to deliver a fully digital, efficient, and transparent registration system, eliminating physical interactions between school proprietors and the board while improving accountability in the administration of the examination.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the state government and shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) platform on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to deploy technology in streamlining examination processes and enhancing service delivery within the education sector.

Providing further details, the Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Adebayo Orunsolu, disclosed that all schools are required to utilise the newly issued School Code throughout the registration process.

He explained that public junior secondary schools are to download the Offline Data Capturing Application through the board’s official website at bece.examsboard.lagosstate.gov.ng to complete candidate registration.

For approved private junior secondary schools, institutions operating under special permission, and continuing education centres, Orunsolu stated that payments and registration should be completed via the board’s payment portal at pay.examsboard.com.ng, where schools can also generate their login credentials.

He further outlined the applicable registration fees, noting that approved private junior secondary schools and approved public continuing education centres are required to pay ₦10,000 per candidate. Schools operating with special permission and private continuing education centres, he added, are to pay ₦15,000 per candidate.

The registrar also called on schools presenting candidates with special needs to notify the board in advance to allow for appropriate arrangements.

“Schools presenting candidates with special needs, including those with visual impairments or albinism, are advised to formally inform the Lagos State Examinations Board in writing to enable adequate preparations ahead of the examination,” he said.

He cautioned that late registration would attract penalties and assured schools that any additional guidelines or updates would be communicated through their respective zonal officers.

The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging digital solutions to enhance efficiency, transparency, and inclusiveness in the conduct of public examinations.
