Burglars of Patience Jonathan’s house jailed seven years

A Port Harcourt High Court has convicted Praise Gelson and Usman Garba for breaking into the home of the former first lady Patience Jonathan to steal valuables worth millions of naira.

The duo was sentenced to seven years imprisonment by Justice Adolphus Enebeli.

The judge also convicted and sentenced Tamunoala Alatoru to six months imprisonment for negligence to her duties.

The defendants were arraigned some time in November 2022 before the court on three counts of conspiracy, armed robbery and attempted murder of Mrs Jonathan.

Justice Ebebeli, in his judgment, found Gelson and Garba, who were the first and third defendants, guilty of armed robbery and attempted murder, noting that the prosecution counsel proved his case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Ebebeli also ruled that the prosecution proved its case against Alatoru who was the second defendant, especially on negligence in her duties and therefore sentenced her to six months imprisonment.
