3 INEC Offices razed by Fire in 10 Days

Between February 3rd and February 12th, 3 offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recorded fire incidents that led to the destruction of election materials.

Punch reports that the first incident was at the INEC office in Isialangwa South Local Government area of Abia State on February 3, where Permanent Voter Cards stacked in the office were set ablaze.

The next was in Qua’anpan Local Government Area of Plateau where ballot boxes, generators filled with fuel, cubicles, newly printed electronic and manual voters register, unclaimed Permanent Voter Cards were destroyed, according to Punch.

The latest was in Awka where two containers packed with sensitive materials for the elections were destroyed. INEC said 4695 card readers were destroyed in that incident, according to Channels.

The commission has however said the elections will go on as planned amidst the setback.
