Yobe Politics: Former PDP Gubernatorial Aspirant Dumps Party for ADC

A former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Yobe State, Ali Tikau, has defected to the African Democratic Congress.

Tikau made the announcement on Monday during a ceremony held in his hometown of Tikau in Nangere Local Government Area. The event drew a large gathering of supporters, political allies and residents who came to witness the formal political shift.

As part of the process marking his departure from the PDP, Tikau symbolically handed over his party membership card to ward officials. The card was received by the Chairman of the PDP Tikau Ward, Samaila Jalamawa, alongside the ward secretary.

Following the move, the former PDP figure was officially welcomed into the ADC, where he was issued a membership card by Babangida Dagare, who represented the state chairman of the party.

Several ward officials were also present at the ceremony, including the Youth Leader, Ali Garba Tikau; the Organising Secretary, Salisu Ibrahim; and Adamu Hassan.

Tikau previously served as Executive Secretary of the National Primary Education Commission and contested the governorship election in Yobe State under the PDP in both the 2011 and 2023 polls.

Speaking with journalists after the event, the politician explained that his decision to leave the PDP came after extensive consultations with supporters and political associates.

He said the move was aimed at creating new political opportunities that could contribute to development and progress within his community and across the state.

According to him, after years of political engagement within the PDP, he and his supporters collectively resolved to join the ADC in pursuit of broader development goals for their people.

Tikau also expressed commitment to strengthening the ADC’s structure and mobilising support for the party ahead of future elections.

He stated that his team would work diligently to ensure the party’s success at all levels of elections leading up to 2027.

He further called on his supporters to remain united and dedicated to the ideals of the party, expressing confidence that the ADC would serve as a strong platform to advance the interests and aspirations of the people.
