Umahi mocks Arise TV journalist Rufai Oseni over traffic offence

Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi on Friday mocked Arise TV anchor Rufai Oseni over his traffic infraction in Lagos.

During an interview, Mr Oseni asked Umahi to defend his party’s decision to pick Muslims as both presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2023 polls in a country where religion plays a huge role in politics.

Umahi replied that he had answered the question before and was not sure if Oseni was bitter towards the APC because of the way his traffic infraction was handled. Lagos State is governed by the APC.

Umahi said, “Rufai, I think I have answered this question and I wouldn’t want to go back. I don’t know whether the fact that you broke the law of driving against traffic is the problem.

“I’ve never commented about it, you’ve not apologised to me. But let me say that I have answered this question and I don’t want to go back to it.”

A Lagos Mobile Court in August found Oseni guilty of traffic infraction after he took the BRT lane with his private vehicle. He was fined ₦70,000.

The journalist has since apologised for making derogatory remarks at the policemen.
