They Thought They Won’: Defence Minister Recalls Failed Conspiracy

Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, has credited divine intervention for his rise to national leadership, saying God elevated him at a time when circumstances seemed unfavourable.

Musa shared his testimony during a recent church service at Conquerors Global Assembly in Abuja. Church Times monitored the service and later shared the video online, where it circulated widely on social media.

The minister attended the service with his wife and expressed gratitude to the church’s founder, Bishop David Abioye, and his wife. He also prayed for the continued growth of the ministry.

While addressing the congregation, Musa encouraged worshippers to remain hopeful, stressing that faith sustains believers in difficult times.

“We serve a living God who never gives up on us,” he said.

Reflecting on developments in his life over the past year, Musa said God turned opposition into elevation.

“We give God the glory for what has happened this year. Even when some thought they were bringing us down, they did not realise that God was preparing to lift us up. They believed they had won, but as long as God stands as your pillar, you will always prevail,” he said.

Describing Bishop Abioye as a trusted ally, the defence minister said challenges play a critical role in personal growth, noting that adversity strengthens character and resilience.

“If you are never challenged, you cannot grow. As Nigerians, we are strong, but we become stronger when we stand together with God. Nigerians are winners, and we must continue to pray for our leaders and our nation,” he said.

Musa also warned against negative narratives about Nigeria, saying constant criticism weakens national morale and progress.

“When you continually speak down on your country, you do not mean well,” he cautioned.

He further urged Christians to live out their faith in practical ways, explaining that true impact comes from aligning actions with beliefs.

President Bola Tinubu nominated Musa as Minister of Defence on December 2, following his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff. The nomination, conveyed in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, named him as the replacement for Mohammed Badaru, who resigned on health grounds. Tinubu expressed confidence in Musa’s capacity to lead the ministry and strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
