TCN Commissions Massive 300MVA Transformer at Egbin

The upgrade has raised the substation’s installed capacity from 300MVA to 450MVA, boosting the volume of bulk electricity available to the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company.

Situated in Lagos State, the Egbin Transmission Substation is a critical node in the transmission network supplying power to EKEDC’s coverage areas across Lagos and neighbouring communities. The facility plays a central role in delivering electricity to a densely populated region with expanding commercial and industrial activities.

In a statement shared on the company’s X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the development would positively impact several communities.

“This upgrade will directly benefit customers in Ikorodu, Shagamu, Ijede, and surrounding areas. It will enhance the reliability of power supply, support economic growth, and contribute to a more stable grid,” she stated.

Also commenting on the milestone, the General Manager, Transmission, Lagos Region, Adeshina Adeonipekun, disclosed that the project was executed internally.

“The project was completed in-house by TCN engineers in just six weeks. This achievement reflects our commitment to strengthening the national grid and ensuring reliable power delivery for all Nigerians,” he said.

With the installation of the additional transformer, the region is expected to experience improved grid stability, greater network flexibility, and a more dependable electricity supply to support homes and businesses.
