Rivers Deputy Governor Defects from PDP to APC

Rivers State Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Odu joined the APC more than a month after Governor Siminalayi Fubara and most Rivers State lawmakers at both state and federal levels left the PDP for the ruling party.

She completed her registration on Sunday at Akabuka, Ward 8, Unit 11, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area. After registering, she toured the six zones of the council area to mobilise residents and encourage participation in the ongoing APC electronic registration exercise.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday in Port Harcourt by Owupele Benebo, Head of the Press Unit in the Office of the Deputy Governor.

Speaking to stakeholders after her registration, Odu said the APC’s e-registration exercise followed Governor Fubara’s formal declaration to join the party weeks earlier. She urged residents to show their support for President Bola Tinubu and the governor by registering en masse with the APC.

According to her, the move aims to strengthen grassroots support for both President Tinubu and Governor Fubara, noting that the party had already held six zonal meetings to drive the mobilisation effort.

Odu said she received a warm reception across the six zones—Egi, Omoku, Osomini, Igburu, Egbema and Ndoni—adding that residents pledged to align with her political direction and that of the governor and president.

She described the growing enthusiasm as a boost to the APC’s strength in the local government area and a sign of increasing grassroots support for the party’s leadership at both state and national levels.

The statement added that a major highlight of the tour was the defection of hundreds of Labour Party members in Ndoni to the APC, with the new members expressing excitement at joining the ruling party.
