PSC, Police Begin Recruitment of 50,000 Constables Nationwide

The Police Service Commission, working with the Nigeria Police Force, has begun the recruitment of 50,000 new police constables following President Bola Tinubu’s approval. The move aligns with the President’s directive to strengthen community policing, boost internal security, and expand the police workforce.

President Tinubu had declared a nationwide security emergency on November 26, 2025, ordering the police and the armed forces to recruit more personnel to confront rising insecurity across the country.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the PSC’s Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Kalu, the Commission announced that the recruitment portal will open to qualified Nigerians from December 15, 2025, until January 25, 2026.

According to the Commission, the recruitment targets both General Duty and Specialist cadres. Applicants for the General Duty category must hold GCE Ordinary Level, SSCE/NECO, or an equivalent qualification with at least five credits—including English and Mathematics—acquired in no more than two sittings.

Those applying for Specialist positions must have at least four credits, including English and Mathematics, obtained in no more than two sittings. They must also present a minimum of three years’ work experience along with relevant trade test certifications.

The Commission added that only Nigerian citizens by birth can apply. Candidates for General Duty must fall between the ages of 18 and 25, while Specialist applicants must be between 18 and 28. General Duty applicants must meet a height requirement of 1.67m for men and 1.64m for women.

All applications must be completed and submitted online through the official recruitment portal.
