NMDPRA Warns Nigerians Against Fake Recruitment Scams

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has issued a public warning over circulating reports claiming the agency is recruiting new staff, describing the information as false and fraudulent.

In a statement released on Monday via its official social media platform, the authority said the misleading reports were being spread by criminal recruitment syndicates attempting to deceive job seekers and extort money from them.

NMDPRA explained that the clarification became necessary following reports that fraudsters were targeting economically vulnerable Nigerians with fake job offers. According to the agency, the scammers have been issuing forged appointment letters, making unrealistic promises of employment, and advertising positions that do not exist, while demanding large sums of money from unsuspecting applicants.

The authority stressed that no recruitment exercise is currently underway, adding that it is not hiring at any level. It noted that any future recruitment process would strictly follow the regulations and procedures governing employment in the Nigerian Public Service.

“We wish to state categorically that the NMDPRA is not conducting any recruitment exercise at the moment, nor is the agency engaging in any form of employment across its services,” the statement said.

NMDPRA advised Nigerians to disregard all unverified recruitment adverts and to confirm any information only through its official communication channels. The agency directed the public to its official website and verified social media platforms for authentic updates.

“For accurate and up-to-date information on our activities, members of the public should visit our official website at www.nmdpra.gov.ng and follow our verified pages on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram,” the agency added.

The authority further warned that such fraudulent schemes not only exploit citizens but also tarnish the image of the institution. It urged Nigerians to stay alert and report suspicious recruitment claims to relevant authorities.
