Man City Raid Bournemouth: Antoine Semenyo Officially Joins the Champions

Manchester City have officially completed the signing of Ghanaian attacker Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth, securing the forward on a long-term contract.

The Premier League champions confirmed on Friday that the 26-year-old has committed his future to the club by signing a five-and-a-half-year deal that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031.

In an announcement released by the club, City expressed delight at finalising the transfer, noting that Semenyo arrives after establishing himself as one of the league’s most dangerous attacking threats during his spell with Bournemouth.

Semenyo enjoyed a rapid rise in England’s top flight, emerging as a key figure for the Cherries since joining midway through the 2022/23 campaign. He went on to make 110 appearances for the south-coast side, delivering consistent and influential performances.

Born in London to Ghanaian parents, the versatile forward began his professional journey at Bristol City before gaining valuable experience through loan stints at Bath City, Newport County and Sunderland. His development culminated in a breakout spell at Bournemouth, where he primarily featured on the left side of an attacking midfield trio.

His impressive displays quickly drew interest from top clubs, with Manchester City ultimately moving decisively to secure his signature.

Speaking after completing the move, Semenyo described the transfer as a proud and defining moment in his career.

He said joining Pep Guardiola’s side was a dream opportunity, praising City’s dominance in domestic and European competitions over the past decade, as well as the club’s elite standards, facilities and leadership.

The Ghana international added that he believes the timing of the move is ideal, insisting he still has significant room to grow and develop at the highest level.

Semenyo also expressed confidence that he can make an immediate impact, noting that City remain active across four competitions and that he is eager to contribute strongly in the second half of the season.

Describing the Etihad Stadium as his new home, he said he is excited to play in front of City supporters and showcase his abilities.

Manchester City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, revealed that Semenyo was the club’s primary target during the January transfer window.

Viana praised the forward’s technical ability, physical presence and influence on matches, highlighting his pace, power, two-footedness and strong work ethic. He also pointed to Semenyo’s professionalism, humility and clear desire to improve as qualities that make him an ideal fit for the club.

According to Viana, City’s recruitment team had monitored players globally, but Semenyo stood out as the top choice due to his proven Premier League pedigree and potential for further development.

Semenyo is available for immediate selection and is eligible to feature in Manchester City’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg clash against Newcastle next Tuesday.
