Kwara Fire Service Neutralizes Major Blaze at Ilorin Recycling Plant

The Kwara State Fire Service successfully contained a massive fire outbreak on Sunday evening at a plastic recycling facility in the Olorunsogo area of Ilorin South Local Government Area. The swift intervention prevented the inferno from spreading to neighboring properties and avoided a potential loss of life.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:10 p.m. at Madfa Nigeria Enterprises. According to a statement released on Sunday night by the Service’s Head of Media and Publicity, PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the fire was fueled by highly combustible plastic materials, making the blaze particularly intense.

“Firefighters responded promptly to the distress call, deploying two fire trucks to the scene,” Adekunle stated. “Despite the severity of the fire due to the nature of the materials, the professional efforts of our team significantly reduced the impact and secured adjoining structures.”

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was ignited by sparks from an ongoing welding operation within the facility. The sparks reportedly landed on stacked plastic materials, leading to a rapid escalation.

Prince Falade John, Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, used the occasion to warn industrial operators against safety negligence. He urged companies to clear combustible materials from work zones, utilize fire-resistant shields, and ensure fire extinguishers are always accessible to prevent future industrial disasters.
