Abimbola Ogunbanjo’s wife mourns as birthday comes three days after husband’s death

Titi Ogunbanjo, wife of the late former group chairman of Nigeria Exchange (NGX) Group Abimbola Ogunbanjo, has been thrown into mourning following her husband’s death.

Mrs Ogunbanjo clocked a new age on Monday but her husband’s death in a helicopter crash in the United States on February 9 has ensured that the family will not be celebrating her birthday.

Mr Ogunbanjo died alongside the chief executive officer of Access Holdings Herbert Wigwe when the helicopter went down.

Wigwe’s wife Chizoba and first son Chizi also died in the accident.

In an Instagram post on Monday, the chief executive officer of UBA Foundation Bola Atta asked the public to pray for the bereaved.

“Titi darling, it’s your birthday today and even though you are not celebrating, I hope everyone who sees this post will say a prayer for you and remember the deep love you and Bimbo share ❤️❤️ May he rest in God’s bosom until you both meet again,” she wrote.

Ogunbanjo was the group chairman of NGX Group, the non-operating holding company that emerged from the demutualisation of The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) from 2021 to 2022.

Born in Nigeria to the family of corporate lawyer and industrialist Chris Ogunbanjo and wife Hilda, Ogunbanjo continued in the family’s tradition by studying to become a lawyer.

On October 11, 2022, ex-President Muhammadu Buhari conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) on Ogunbanjo for his contributions to the development of the capital markets, corporate law and in recognition of his outstanding virtues and in appreciation of his services to Nigeria.
