500 students receive digital skills education from a foundation

The Bunmi Adedayo Foundation is making waves in the digital education space by empowering Nigerian students through its transformative STEAM Ahead programme. The Foundation revealed it has trained more than 500 secondary school students in various technology skills, positioning them for better educational and career prospects.

Launched to enhance access to quality education, STEAM Ahead focuses on nurturing creativity, coding abilities, and problem-solving skills, with special attention to students in marginalized communities.

In an Educa.ng exclusive report, the Foundation detailed how the initiative teaches practical skills in coding languages such as HTML and CSS, digital design tools, and analytical thinking.

One standout story was that of Mary, a secondary school student in Ketu, Lagos, who nearly abandoned her academic dreams due to her family’s financial struggles. However, STEAM Ahead became a turning point for her.

“Through this programme, I discovered that I could pursue my dreams without limits,” Mary said.

To date, the Foundation has directly trained 90 students—including a significant number of girls—and has reached hundreds more via its ICT centres in Yaba and Ketu, which provide foundational computer literacy.

According to the Foundation, participants in the programme demonstrated a 30 percent improvement in their literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking skills.

The Foundation attributed its success to collaborations with reputable organizations such as Google, Datatec, and Patent Pathway International’s Mr. Yombo Peters, who provided technical and financial backing.

Looking ahead, the Foundation urged more corporations and philanthropic groups to support its vision.

“There are many more students like Mary out there, waiting for a chance to succeed,” the Foundation said. “Together, we can build a brighter future for Nigeria’s underserved children.”
