MRH MAGAZINE MAY 2017: THE REAL WEDDING PARTY

The Nigerian internet space literally went berserk on the morning of the 3rd of May, when Banky W and Adesua Etomi posted pictures of their engagement on Instagram with love notes that melted our hearts.
The first thing that popped into most people’s mind was: is this another publicity stunt for another movie. Alas! It wasn’t
I was amongst this set of people and you really couldn’t blame us because our hearts had been broken one too many times, first of which was when designer extraordinaire Mai Atafo posted a wedding picture of the two lovebirds, making us think they had a private wedding, following the romance rumor that sufficed after Adesua featured in Banky W ‘All I Want is You’ music video. The chemistry between the two was so palpable that the Nigerian Association of Romantics, super stoked, already declared them the hottest Nigerian couple, only for us to hear that it was a picture from a movie set. Our hearts were
shattered into a thousand pieces and alot of people didn’t recover from the heartbreak, all we did was manage the 80 minutes onscreen romance between the two in The Wedding Party movie and hoped that it would translate into real life.
We were still hoping, some gave up along the way, especially when neither Banky W or Adesua Etomi did not do anything to fuel the rumors about a brewing romance between them. More romantics dropped also when Adesua said she had a huge crush on Nigerian American singer Jidenna, I guessed they couldn’t keep up with the disappointment and heartbreaks any longer. First lesson learnt: Always follow your dreams, no matter what it is (romantic or otherwise).
Adesua and Banky W’s union is one that made a lot of people happy. A friend described her excitement upon reading the news; she said she felt ecstatic, like she was related to Banky and Adesua, meanwhile she hasn’t even met either of the two. Another said she was elated but highly surprised because she
always saw Banky as a bad boy and Adesua as a good girl, who cares, opposites do attract (I’m not categorically saying Banky is a bad boy though).
The reaction from celebrities and non-celebrities said it all, almost every one took to twitter and instagram to express their excitement at the couple’s union. Sola Sobowale and Kemi Adetiba said they noticed the chemistry between the couple while they were on The Wedding Party Movie set, and secretly hoped that it would develop into something serious – well, here they have it. Omoni Oboni said she hoped she wasn’t the only one that cried upon hearing the news – no sis, people kept asking why my eyes were red all through that day, and I kept wondering why myself. Don Jazzy questioned his bachelorhood, and Adekunle Gold was called out on his unpublicised relationship with Simi (he was asked to declare his intentions or take a soft walk). The 3rd of May also happened to be Genevieve Nnaji, Ireti Doyle, Emma Oh My God and a few others’ birthday and we forgot! Instead, literally everyone was posting pictures of the newly engaged and wishing them well. Second lesson learnt: Romance and Love is not dead afterall!
It was the perfect romantic story; quintessential husband material and president of the single boys club, Banky had seen Adesua a couple of times since 2012, till he summoned up the courage to slide into her DM 2 years ago and declare himself her biggest fan. What can make a handsome and intelligent dude like Banky loose his bad boy technics and choose to slide into DM – Love my dear people, LOVE! Third lesson learnt: Ladies declare your Dms open for all but with this lady’s advice.
